Guilds: From my Perspective

*I wrote this the day that Amorgan left Sated and then just forgot to post it, so its a little out dated, but I felt the need to still post it.

In starting this blog off, let me address a question that was asked of me a few times to day, and that is, “what happened to Amorgan.” For those of you who don’t know, Amorgan left Sated today, and he left in a fashion befitting a rogue… quietly. Now for most of you that know Amorgan, this is abnormal behavior because he never does anything quietly but that’s the way he wanted to do it. The easiest way I can think to answer this question is to tell you to read the blog he’s created that way you will be getting it directly from the source. I know the reasons why he left, but it is not my place to explain them or defend them, I am a firm believer in not being a middle man if I can avoid it. Now with that being said, I also want it to be known that I plan on staying with Sated. Most people know that when Amorgan leaves I am usually not far behind, that is not the case this time. For the first time since the beginning amorgan and I will be in separate guilds(which is fine considering that I live with him…so it won’t be that bad lol).

Now getting in to the topic of this blog. There are a few things I can say about guilds in general, they can be helpful, but they can also be hurtful. They can be full of friends but can turn unfriendly in an instance. They can be useful, but there are some that can be totally useless. Then you can have some that are totally lax, and some that are way to uptight. Basically for every pro that can be thought up so can a con. What I’m trying to get across I guess is that there is not one single guild in this game that is going to meet the standard of every player, because all of us want different things out of this game. You have those who play for fun, those who play because they say it’s a stress reliever , those who play just to connect with other people, those who play as if this is a second reality to them, and then there is what I deem as my category, the people that play for fun but would like to accomplish some things as well. Unfortunately when you get all the different reasons for playing in the same guild its like a ticking time bomb, believe me I have seen a guild explode when different playing styles go head to head, it is not pretty but like the old saying goes. “Shit Happens” you pick yourself up and go in search for something else that might work for you. As of right now Sated works for me, unfortunately Amorgan is still in that stage of trying to find what works for him.

Now let me address some of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to being in a guild. One of the biggest issues I have is people being ignored in guild chat, now don’t get me wrong I realize that some times guild chat can get pretty retarded and so we choose not to pay attention to it, but in doing so we could be ignoring a serious question from someone who might have just joined, or someone who’s had to repeat themselves so many times that they just decided what the hell is the point of staying in a guild when simple questions are getting ignored. NO one in this game should feel above answering questions, lets not forget that at one time we were all Level 1 noobs who didn’t have a clue. And it shouldn’t matter if you know the person asking the question or not, or if you know the answer or not. There is more harm done by acting oblivious then by simply stating, “I don’t know the answer to that…sorry.”

Another one is Favoritism. Now before everyone starts getting in a huff, I understand that there are people in this game that we feel more comfortable playing with, or that we know we can rely on. I mean hello I’ve been with Amorgan since day one….we practically have been joined at the hip in till here recently. What I am talking about is absurd amounts of favoritism. For example, if you have enough people online to do a few heroics (meaning you have one tank, one healer, and three dps) and you choose not to do heroics in till certain people come on….not just one day or two days in a row but like every single day…that’s just ridiculous. Everyone in this game wants to gear up and improve upon themselves but that can be difficult to do when being passed over constantly. With that being said I also understand that some people may not be ready for certain dungeons or raids…that is totally understandable, that’s why you have higher and lower level raids, that way everyone’s needs can hopefully be met, cause believe me, its not just women that can get a little perturbed when scorned.

Then there is what I refer to as the “Big Shit HAHA” syndrome…. Which in my own unique words refers to the players who believe they are larger then life, they are the end all be all of everything. I have only ever encountered this type of person once in a guild I was in, and truthfully once was enough. Like it our not, there is always going to be someone out there that can whoop your ass no matter how badass you believe yourself to be. Just like there is always going to be that one person who may know just a little more about this game then you do. I would like to believe I can rule the world, but that just isn’t so, and I accept that, I think if more people would realize this then maybe so many people wouldn’t end up on the ignore list. Cause believe me, my ignore list is full of “Big Shit HAHA’s”

There are many other things but those are my main ones. My biggest thing is just be freaking considerate, I mean seriously its like some people log on to the game and log out on their morale’s and common decency. Now I’m not totally innocent when it comes down to it, there have been times in this game where my patience has been tested and I have lost my cool, and I’m not proud of that, but I own it and I try to change the way I handle myself in certain situations, and believe me that’s not always easy….hello German Irish here. But it can be done, so please just remember that we are all here to enjoy a game and please don’t say or do things that are just flat out wrong….here’s a general rule to live by, if your about ready to say something that you know your mama would smack you for….keep your mouth shut, or if your about ready to do something you know would disappoint or anger your mama….take a wild guess…DON’T DO IT. Later everyone… take care and god bless.
